The Counter does what its name suggests: it counts repetitive actions. To do this, it has a built-in Maltese cross and three gears attached to wheels, numbered 0 through 9.
This model will allow you to observe an interesting mechanical feature: the conversion of the linear motion of the push button, coupled with the Maltese cross mechanism, into the rotary motion of the gears and wheels with the numbers.

More information

The counter offers two data recording options: via the push button on the top of the body, or via the rotating handle on the right side. Pressing the push button or turning the handle advances the counter by one unit. When it reaches 9, the Maltese cross engages the next recording wheel and adds a ten (or hundred) to the count.

In total, the counter's three-digit display can show values between 1 and 999. You can also open the counter's front cover and reset it manually.

Other uses of this mechanism include counting flight passengers, event visitors, or customers at shopping malls or public transportation in large cities. It is an ancient tool invented by the ancient Greek engineer Hero of Alexandria. In this case, it was used to measure distance traveled by counting the number of rotations of the wheels of a wooden cart.

You can also use it in different ways by using your imagination: try counting the steps you take to get from one room to another in your house, or the number of people who pass by your window in a given time. Or how about the number of yellow cars you see on your afternoon walk? Or count the kilometers on a stretch of road and compare it to the number of kilometers the car has traveled.
