The assembly and enjoyment of these charming and unique wooden Ugears models has become a popular hobby for thousands of people on all five continents, and now you can combine a love of scuba diving with model building in this Ugears model.
With its original theme, this wooden model is not only an attractive addition to our Ugears catalogue, but also offers unique mechanical action. The aquarium fish and algae rotate simultaneously and in parallel, at different speeds and in different directions, simulating the gentle, undulating rhythms of underwater flora and fauna. Moving their heads and tails from side to side, the fish appear to swim for real! While many other Ugears models are driven by rubber band motors, the uniqueness of this model is that it is spring driven to prolong the action and increase its lifespan. Ugears prides itself on innovation and listening to the public, and many people have asked for spring-loaded models. Therefore, they are especially proud to present this spring-loaded aquarium - the first in our growing catalogue of Ugears models!
To activate the model, wind up the key underneath the aquarium (about 25 half-turns), turn the "STOP" button to "SWIM" and then watch your mechanical aquarium come to life! The mechanism includes an internal pendulum to regulate and smooth the movement. This model has been designed to be the very definition of operational simplicity for the operator: one button and two modes of operation: ON and OFF. You can let it rotate for approximately 40 seconds and enjoy the movements of the robot fish and seaweed, or stop it at any time.
Did you know that the Romans and Aztecs already had rudimentary saltwater aquariums? (The Aztecs were rather more ostentatious.) In 1846, marine zoologist Anna Thynne created and maintained over a period of three years the first ecologically balanced saltwater aquarium. It was the inspiration for the London Zoo aquarium, known as Fish House, which opened seven years later. But it took another hundred years before saltwater aquariums really began to spread as a personal hobby in the 1950s. Due to the necessity of having to fill the tank regularly with seawater, most of the early hobbyists lived near the sea. Saltwater tanks always required the aquarist to purchase a range of equipment, including filtration, aeration and lighting systems that were quite expensive and costly to maintain. Over time, the aesthetics and technologies associated with saltwater aquariums have progressed. Dead corals have given way to live coral and rock species, water quality and temperature control systems have improved, captive breeding and commercial coral propagation have reduced interventions in vulnerable marine environments to obtain these species, and knowledge of the interconnections between species has deepened.
Not everyone can afford the challenges and expense of setting up and maintaining a saltwater aquarium. Even today, a basic aquarium for beginners involves a substantial and ongoing investment of time and resources.
With this Mechanical Aquarium, however, you can immerse yourself in the fascinating underwater world, with an attractive and whimsical wooden model that you can assemble yourself and then proudly display. Once the model has been assembled, family and friends will have hours of fun with the robot fish, which swim around in the wooden tank with their realistic swimming movements, while the occasional secretive seahorse will be spotted in the kelp forest. And best of all: You never have to change the water!
At Ugears they constantly strive for a beautiful design of amazing mechanical action for everyone's enjoyment and delight. They always include some special detail in their models, and in the case of this model it is the seahorse, hidden in the middle of the kelp forest.
Part of their philosophy is to bring people together - especially from different generations - as they build or play with their mechanical wonders. Make the Mechanical Aquarium your next family project!
UGEARS creates attractive and imaginative mechanical models, made of wood, that move by themselves and can be assembled without glue.
