More info
Known for the highly rich mixture of 90% nitromethane and methanol that powers the 11,000 horsepower engines (the equivalent of the power of ten F1 cars), a top fuel dragster consumes 41.6 litres of fuel per second - the same combustion rate as a Boeing 747, except that the dragster engine is 4 times more efficient! On a straight track, the top fuel dragster leaves the fastest Bugatti or Porsche in the dust - right from the start of the race, the quarter mile (0.4 km) record is an incredible 3.6 seconds!
A brief glance at the Ugears Dragster shows that this is no ordinary toy car. The model is powered by a powerful spring motor and gear set that transmits the power via the crankshaft and belt drive (a rubber belt run through a roller tensioner) to the rear wheels, which are fitted with special silicon seals for better grip. It has a Start/Stop button and is capable of wheelies when started at full speed, just like a real dragster. The Dragster has an open "skeleton" design, which allows you to see the beauty of the amazing mechanics inside this racing car.
To start the car, first make sure the button is in the "Stop" position. Then turn the non-removable knob on the back of the Dragster a dozen times clockwise. Place the Dragster on the ground and while holding it with one hand, switch the Start/Stop button to its "Start" position and release the Dragster. And because this is an Ugears model and they tend to like realistic details, the air inlet dampers are closed in the "Stop" position and open in the "Start" position.
The engines of real top fuel dragsters have a life cycle of only 3 minutes, including warm-up. After each 4-second lap they are disassembled, inspected and cleaned. Damaged or worn parts are replaced (clutch, pistons, connecting rods, gaskets, spark plugs) and the complete engine is rebuilt in about 40 minutes to be ready for the next race. Fortunately, this Dragster does not require this maintenance, but during construction you should pay attention to sand and lubricate all moving parts well to keep them working optimally.
