More info
The speeding Nocturnal BusTM rumbles through the streets of Muggle London (or your dining room), thanks to its powerful spring-loaded engine, which is wound up by a secret key stored in the roof of the bus. Pull up the magic manipulator button also on the roof to lock the drive gears and prevent the bus from rocketing off before the wizards and witches have boarded. With the bus thus locked, you can take out the secret key and insert it into the mechanism on the side of the bus and turn it around a few times. To start the bus, hold the bus and press the magic manipulator button down. The Nighthawk BusTM sets off at full speed thanks to a gear system that transfers the spring energy to the wheels. A "tilting" gear also allows the bus to continue gliding at idle.
But the most remarkable feature of the DIY wooden model of the Nighthawk BusTM is its ability to transform, changing its width, narrowing or expanding when the magic manipulator is turned. By turning it counter-clockwise, the bus narrows to pass through traffic. By turning the knob clockwise, the bus (as well as the passengers) expands and returns to its original size. But here something fascinating happens - as the width of the bus changes, so does its speed! In its normal (uncompressed) state, the bus goes amazingly fast. When the bus is compressed, an internal mechanism makes the bus go at slow motion speed.
You can leave your Nocturnal BusTM in its attractive natural wooden state, paint it purple (as we know it from "Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban") or paint or varnish it in your preferred colour scheme.
